If you are switching from another
ISP, you may wish to simply reconfigure your existing dialer, web browser,
and e-mail program to work with Northcoast Internet. To do so, consult
this table of information. If not, close any programs you have running
and follow the instructions printed below.
FOR WINDOWS AND MACINTOSH COMPUTERS
Step 1.
Open the CD ROM tray.
Step 2.
Place the Easy Internet CD-ROM in the tray, text side up.
Step 3.
Run the program setup.exe
a. Macintosh users should double click the setup.exe icon.
b. Windows 95 users should click the Start button, then choose RUN.
Type in the CD ROM drive letter followed by a colon and backslash and
the word "setup.exe". (ex. d:\setup.exe).
c. Win31 users should choose from program manager FILE, then RUN, then
type the CD ROM drive letter followed by a colon and a backslash and
the word "setup.exe". (ex. d:\setup.exe)
Step 4.
Carefully read the licensing agreement and click the appropriate button
if you agree or disagree. If you disagree, the program will close.
Step 5.
If you do not have all the components needed to access the Internet,
EASY INTERNET will prompt you to install them. EASY INTERNET will install
the Dial-UP Networking in Windows95 and Open Transport and Open Transport
PPP for Macintosh. You will need to have your Windows95 disks or CDROM
available.
Step 6.
The Setup Wizard will now walk you through what it needs to configure
your computer.
a. Enter your ISP ACCESS CODE which is “ni”. It is not case sensitive.
Click NEXT.
b. You selected a Dial-up Login Name when you signed up for your Northcoast
Internet Account. Your Logon Name is shown on page 2 of this booklet
as "Username/Login"). It is case sensitive, so be certain you type
it in exactly as it is written. Your e-mail Name is the same as your
Login Name. Leave this field blank. Click NEXT.
c. Your Real Name. This is the name your mother gave you. (note: there
are programs which allow people to "finger" you and find out the name
you put here. If you do not want others to find out your real name,
enter a nickname).
Step 7.
Once all the information boxes have been filled, click on the FINISH
button.
Step 8.
Northcoast Internet’s Terms of Service (Acceptable Use Policy) will
now be displayed. This is a contract between you and Northcoast Internet.
You should read it carefully before clicking I AGREE. After you read
the Acceptable Use Policy and agree, Click I AGREE. A copy of Northcoast
Internet’s Terms of Service is included in this booklet starting on
page 15. The text of our Terms of Service are also displayed in the
MEMBER AREA under DIAL-UP SUBSCRIBER MANUAL.
The EZ Net Setup window is displayed.
Step 9.
Click on any of the program icons in the Available Titles box and a
description of the selected program will appear in the PROGRAMS DESCRIPTION
box along with information on pricing if the program is shareware.
To Install any of these programs simply click on the INSTALL button.
Step 10.
CONFIGURING YOUR COMPUTER
AFTER INSTALLING PROGRAMS
Click on the INTERNET CONFIGURATION button.
Choose the closest location and the appropriate phone number. For locations
with two numbers, the first is for 33.6 dialup. Choose the second number
ONLY IF YOU HAVE A 56K V.90 MODEM.
Selection of the correct phone number is
important. You must be sure that the number you select is a local
number that will not result in long distance charges on your phone
bill. Call your local phone company operator and confirm that the
number you have selected is in your local calling area.
NOTE: NORTHCOAST INTERNET WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LONG DISTANCE
CHARGES ON YOUR TELEPHONE BILL. NORTHCOAST INTERNET WILL NOT REIMBURSE
OR ISSUE CREDIT TO CUSTOMERS WHO ACCESS OUR INTERNET SERVICES USING
THE INCORRECT DIAL-UP NUMBER.
Click NEXT.
EASY INTERNET will scan your hard drive and locate installed programs
which can be configured. You will see a list of programs on the right.
If you do not want a particular program configured, simply uncheck the
box beside it.
Click CONFIGURE.
EASY INTERNET will now configure all your programs, Dial Up Networking,
create a shortcut in Windows95 and put it on the desktop, or in a program
group called DIAL UP CONNECTIONS in Windows 3.x
Step 11.
CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET
Close the Easy Internet program by clicking the QUIT button.
Windows 95 - Look for a connection icon on your desktop.
Double click the icon enter your password and click CONNECT.
Windows 3.x- Look for a program
group called DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS. Double-click on that connection icon,
enter in your password, and choose the CONNECT button.
Macintosh- Choose APPLE MENU ITEM,
then CONTROL PANELS, then PPP.
Enter your password, then choose the CONNECT button.
After you connect open and run any of the programs you have installed.
Step 12 (Optional)
For a quick lesson about the Internet, click Help, then click START
INTERACTIVE TUTORIAL. A cartoon figure named Rommy (with a squeaky annoying
cartoon voice) presents an overview of the Internet, email, shopping,
security, and other concerns.
