Changing file permissions via FTP
 
    This page provides instructions on how to change file permissions via FTP. This may be of use for users who want to install interactive .cgi scripts and wish to set varying levels of access to their files.

At this time, very few FTP programs allow you to change file permissions. Two popular ones we identified are CuteFTP for Windows 3.x and 95, and Fetch for Macintosh. These instructions are written for these two programs.

CuteFTP for Windows 3.x and 95/98

  • Upload the file(s) that you will be using.
  • Once uploaded, select the the file that you want to modify and click on the Commands menu.
  • Select the Change File Attributes menu option.
  • Change the remote permissions that you want and click on OK button.

Fetch for Macintosh

  • Upload the file(s) that you will be using.
  • Once uploaded, select the the file that you want to modify and click on the Remote menu.
  • Select the Set Permissions... menu option.
  • Change the remote permissions that you want and click on OK button.
