| Security Information -- PeRKInet Booklet |
| Please read and follow
the instructions below to ensure your privacy and the safety of your computer
system.
Computers that are configured to use PeRKInet are "networked", which means they are configured to communicate with one another. It is strongly recommended that any file sharing features on your computer should be disabled to prevent others from accessing (and potentially harming) your computer. Only those people who require file sharing and are experienced in the file sharing abilities of their operating system should have this feature enabled. Neither Northcoast Internet, Inc. nor Cox Communications Humboldt are liable for any loss or damage caused by improper or incorrect use of your computer's file sharing features. Fortunately, most computer systems have file sharing disabled by default. However, please be sure and check that your computer does not have file sharing enabled by following the instructions below. Windows 95 and 98
Windows NT and Macintosh Other operating systems, like Windows NT or the Macintosh OS, use a variety of file sharing services. Check your operating system manual for information on disabling file sharing or contact your computer's manufacturer for help.
