Macintosh setup -- PeRKInet Booklet
 
    The Macintosh operating system has had a number of different network components over the years. Instructions for two common components are listed here.

Look in your Control Panels folder for the control panels listed below. It's in the System folder, in your computer's hard drive. Follow the instructions for your network control panel. If you don't have any of the control panels listed below, or more than one, contact your computer manufacturer or our technicians for assistance.

If you have MacTCP:

  1. Double-click on the MacTCP icon to open it.
  2. Enter your IP address in the box that asks for it. It's listed on page 2 of your printed manual.
  3. Press the More... button at the bottom of the window.
  4. In the box titled Obtain Address:, make sure the Manually box is selected.
  5. In the Routing Information: box, enter your gateway address in the box that asks for it. It's listed on page 2 of this manual.
  6. Where it lists the Class, make sure Class: C is selected. Leave the other values in that box alone.
  7. In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, there's a box titled Domain Name Server Information. There are three columns of information in that box.

    The first column lists the Domain. In the first box, enter northcoast.com. In the box below, enter a single period (.) The third box should be blank.

    The second column lists the IP Address. Enter 208.25.112.20 in the top-most box. Enter 208.25.112.1 in the second box.

    The third column is titled Default. The top row of information should be selected as the default.

  8. Click on OK, then close MacTCP. Restart your computer. You should now be configured to use PeRKInet.

If you have TCP/IP (Open Transport v. 1.1.2):

  1. Open the TCP/IP control panel.
  2. The setting Connect via: should be set to Ethernet.
  3. The Configure: setting should be set to Using DHCP server.
  4. There is a box for the Name server addr: setting. Type 208.25.112.20, then press return. Then type 208.25.112.1.
  5. Type northcoast.com in the box named Implicit Search Path:
  6. Click on the Options... button in the bottom of the window. Make sure the option Make TCP/IP: is set to Active.
  7. Normally, everything else should be left at its default value.
  8. Restart your computer to make the changes take effect.

You may have a different version of Open Transport than the one above. The settings will be the same, but they might be located in different places within the control panel.
