Windows 95 and 98
store their networking information in the Network control panel. The following
instructions will help you change your settings to use the PeRKInet service.
- Click on the Start button.
Select Settings..., then Control
Panel.
- In the Control Panel
folder, double-click on Network.
- The next window will have a tab at the top named Configuration.
Below, a box will list the network components that are installed on
your computer. Double-click on TCP/IP.
You may have to scroll down to see it.
- A window titled TCP/IP Properties
will open. It will have a set of tabs at the top. The first tab is
named IP address. Select the choice
Obtain an IP address automatically.
- Change to the WINS Configuration
tab. Select Use DHCP for WINS Resolution.
- Change to the Gateway
tab. Make sure there are no gateways listed. If there are, select
them, then press the Remove button.
- Change to the DNS Configuration
tab. Select Enable DNS. In the Host
box, enter your PeRKInet username. It's listed on page 2 of this manual,
and is also written on a sticker that's attached to the back of your
cable modem. In the Domain box, enter
northcoast.com. In the DNS
Server Search Order box, enter 208.25.112.20,
then press the Add button. That number
will appear in the box below. Then enter 208.25.112.1
and press the Add button again. In the Domain Suffix Search
Order box, enter northcoast.com and click the Add button.
- Click on OK, then on
OK again on the next screen. It will
ask to restart your computer. Tell it Yes
to restart.
- Your computer is now configured to use PeRKInet.
